A Special Memory Cake

Melissa is another client who comes to me on a regular for her cake orders. This one was a special one. She was getting together with a friend who's husband passed away. She wanted me to make a cake with a picture of her friends husband on the cake with the saying: I will always love you on it. She knew that it would mean everything to her best friend! Melissa called right after she left dinner to let me know that her friend absolutely loved the cake! Her friend was in tears when the cake was presented to her.

I am so glad that I was able to make this happen for her!

This cake pictured is a heart shaped strawberry cake filled with fresh strawberries, and bananas! Covered in candy nonpareils.

The cookie was chocolate chip and the border of the cookie was covered in whipped cream and had heart shaped candy on it as well.

Hello Kitty and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cakes

My sister decided that she was going to have both her son & daughters birthday together this year. Two totally different themes too, so that meant 2 different cakes! Hello Kitty (Strawberry cake w/cream cheese filling) and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse(Chocolate cake w/ chocolate pudding filling)!

Hello Kittys face was entirely star piped, minus the nose, eyes, and inner part of her bow.

Mickey Mouse Club House wouldn't be complete without Toodles:

I tried to study the font as much as I could so that I could freehand it onto the stars. Not too shabby!

I needed to add a little more color to the cake so I added some grass for the border.

Single red rose w/ black polka dots...and scissors!

This beauty of a cake was custom made for a hairstylist. The black polka dots represented the color that everybody was to wear at the party, and the single red rose to represent the color the birthday girl would be wearing. She was to stand out against the rest of the crowd. The scissors....well to represent her profession of course! I wanted the cake to stand out so of course I added edible glitter throught the entire cake. It was hard to see due to the photos I took with my phone but all of the polka dots were covered in black edible glitter and looked amazing!

Marie tried to order her birthday cake this year and I refused! All that she told me was that she wanted the cake to be chocolate overload since she LOVES chocolate. I was fair and made a cheesecake creamcheese and strawberry filling because she was sharing her birthday with Omar.

For those wondering her sister was the one who placed the order afterall. Marie just wanted to make sure that the cake was her favorite flavor, oh and that it was decorated in her favorite color purple! :)

Since my neice liked the Swet 16 checkerboard cake I made she asked for me to replicate the checkerboard onto her cake but with her favorite color purple. I added green to make the purple pop!

Birthday Presents for Kayla

My baby girl Kayla didn't have a characther theme for her birthday this year. I guess it is because she is getting older and out of cartoons and such. She had a Green party! Why green? Well, it is her favorite color so she asked for everyone to wear that color on her special day. What better to go along with the day than green presents as cakes!

Jojo and his Spongebob birthday party!

I guess I work best when I am under a time crunch! I didnt think I was going to be able to pull off making a Spongebob cake, but I think it turned out great!

Finally he has started to come to life...Phew!

This cake was very fun to make. I was given a sample of t-shirts that were being worn at the birthday party, and was given the invitation as well. So I used those ideas to come up with the design of this cake. The top tier was strawberry cake with strawbery butter cream, and the bottom layer was a choacolate chip cake with vanilla frosting.

Hot pink and black zebra print cake

So my cousin Natalie was attending an 80's party this past weekend and the birthday girl wanted a cake to mach the decor which was hot pink and black zebra print. I am still waiting for some pictures to add to show how it blended in well with the decor, but untill then you can view it as it sat on my table :)

It was a red velvet caske with cream cheese filling and covered in vanilla butter cream frosting and vanilla fondant!

Flower pot cake

For those of you wondering: No I havent' mastered sculpting cakes yet. Surprisingly I did not need to do that for this cake. Some instructions did say I needed to but I found that I didn't have to!

This cake was made for Jason. It was his grandmothers birthday this past weekend and he wanted to give her a cake that looked like a flower pot filled with flowers. The cake was German Chocolate and filled with a chopped coconut, pecan filling. It was covered in vanilla butter cream and vanilla fondant and I used grounded oreo cookies to make the soil on top of the pot. All of the flowers were made of gum paste. The only non edible part of the cake was the grass.

My favorite character in the movie Alice in Wonderland was the Queen of Hearts! So I figured a quick and easy was to pay her tribute was to make a QoH card.

A way for me to tie in Alice was to make the frosting on the cupcakes blue, And also to make a bottle saying: "Drink Me" on them! Needed to do something quick and easy since I had to prepare for my 10 year old birthday party. :)

I admit I was thrilled when Mia's Pieces was asked to collaborate with The Fresh Fiends. They were holding a chairty event called Sweet Escape! What is that you might ask? Well it was a bake sale and all of the proceeds that were donated went to help the victims of Haiti. Only thing is I wish I would have been able to actually make the event! The Fresh Fiends held it down though!

Tammie Coe inspired cake

I was challenged to make a Tammie Coe replica cake. When I heard that challenge I will admit I got a bit scared, but managed to pull it off. Thank goodness! This was a 1 tier triple layer chocolate fudge cake and in between the layers was vanilla butter cream. It was also covered in vanilla butter cream frosting and topped with a layer of non parelis sprinkles.

Ok so not only did these cupcakes look like pumpkin pies, but they tasted just like it too! The recipe called for pumpkin puree and my oh my! If you heated them up for about 5 seconds in the microwave they tasted even better!

I learn as I go along and wanted to share these beauties with you. They came out looking amazing! Tasted great too. The recipe calls for mashed up apples but next time I make them I will definately cube the apples to bring the taste of the apples out more. I will also find a way to make the caramel not run off the sides. If any of you know please let me know!

My nephew Jojo turned the Big 5 this past week and I was asked to make some WWE cupcakes to go along with his WWE themed party. I thought why not just mimic the logo!

The cupcakes were vanilla filled with strawberries and strawberry glaze, topped with a vanilla buttercream. The logo was made from white and red chocolate candy melts.

Kayla's Zebra print cake

This past week my daughter Kayla turned 7 and she asked me to make her a zebra print cake for her jungle themed birthday party. Boy oh boy did I have fun making this one. It was my first 2-tier cake. My daughter loves chocolate so the bottom tier was triple chocolate fudge with a vanilla/chocolate chip pudding. The reason I made a top tier was because my daughter remembered that one of her friends that was attending her party is allergic to chocolate so she asked me to make vanilla cake for her. For those of you wondering, those balls are not gumballs, I got asked that a lot during her party. They are made out of marshmellow fondant.

Strawberry pie cupcakes

So they may look like mini strawberry pies, but reality is that they are triple chocolate fudge cupcakes filled with strawberry and also topped with strawberry glaze. I got this idea from Flickr where I happen to find many fabulous ideas. The original cupcake pies were made to look like pumpkin pies, which I will be making for Thanksgiving! Kelly thank you soo much for challenging me and believing that I could create the Paul Frank cake you wanted. For those wondering the cake was vanilla with mini chocolate chips and filled with strawberries and strawberry glaze, oh and topped with a great tasting marshmellow fondant! Yummy. Here are some pictures starting with the characters all cut out and ready to get put on the cake.

There were a couple of minor injuries to the fondant pieces but nothing that a little frosting couldnt fix :) Thanks again Kelly :)

Just thought I would share my final cake for course 1. It was better than I thought it would look, but still need to sharpen my flower skills. The Wilton rose is a bit hard. The base and the bud were a breeze, but the 2nd and 3rd layers were a pain.

I forgot about my cake that I made in class last Saturday! Ok so here is the story we have to take our cakes in frosted so that we can decorate the cake in class after our lesson. Well as I was putting the cake in the car it fell over. I had some frosting to cover up some of the damage but not all of it.....

We learned how to make the shell border, dots, and how to make clowns! I had fun!! All these dots are driving me nuts ha ha! The last 2 posts had polka dots on them.

Baby shower invitations and favors

First and foremost I would like to thank Kaliah for ordering the invitations and favors! She wanted something very cute for her sisters baby shower being that this is her sister 1st baby! Her theme was pink and brown and so I decided to make a baby onesie for the invitation. Some of you may know and some may not but odd numbers are more appealing to the eye so of course I added 1 more color to the invite.

They opened up and on the inside I added vellum paper and pink rhinestones to match the outside of the invitation.

This next picture is the invitation, envelope, seal and direction insert.

My theme for my baby shower was also pink and brown and I had a hard time finding pink and brown party favors but mentioned to Kaliah what I made for my shower. Very simple and plain but cute. They are filled with pink peanut M&M's and chocolate Skittles. Take a look...

Sunday I woke up thinking I needed to pay tribute to the NY Yankees. I had some time before the game started to whip up some fantastic red velvet cupcakes filled with vanilla pudding, and topped with cream cheese frosting. I always speed through things due to the fact that I have a 10 month old baby who is attached to my hip the majority of the time. Here is the picture of the cupcakes:

I also went to my 2nd class and we are only allotted 30 minutes to decorate our cakes and this is what I did. Originally the cake was supposed to be plain white, but a girl bumped into me and pink pixie dust spilled onto my cake. I should have taken more pictures of the side of my cake. There were hearts around the cake too! There were some decorations towards the bottom of the cake but didnt like the way they looked so I took them off.

Jungle invitations

Ok so I have been putting these invites on the back burner for quite some time. I finally realized that I needed to get these invites done so Kayla can take them to school and pass out to her friends.

Oh and of course my daughter wanted me to make the wording in 3 different colors so here is what all 3 look like:

As you can see the picture is somewhat blurry. That was purposely done. I may be adding 1 more animal to the inside of the invitaiton. Since I decorated soo much on the outside I didnt want to over kill the inside of the invitation!

Halloween treats

So I finally had some down time away from work, at home taking care of my daughter and made the monster logo cupcake. I think it turned out pretty good! So good that one of my friends from high school saw the post on my Facebook page and said that she was going to show it to the Monster rep at her event last night!!! Thanks Cynthia!!

Now Cindy is the one who asked me to make the Monster logo cupcake for her son. She only asked for 1 cupcake but I thought hmm you need more than 1, so I decided to make her 2 jumbo cupcakes since she has been waiting so patiently!

Tis the season for the Halloween goodies! Had some time to play around and thought I would try to make a ghost and this is what I came up with:

There will be more to come! I started my cake decorating classes on Saturday and it was very fun! We got to see the instructor decorate a cake in about less than 10 minutes! Our home work was to bake a cake and bring it in frosted to our next class. I also need to whip up thick, meduim, and thin consistency frostings so that I can decorate my cake in class!!!

Pumpkin cupcakes

Ok so I got down to business and made some triple chocolate fudge cupcakes filled with mini chocolate chips. Amy asked me to make some for her she had a Halloween function and was asked to take some goodies! She said they were a hit! I am exicted! Here is a look before:

After I delivered the dozen to her I got 3 more orders of the sqame cupcakes! They read my blog and even though I have already thanked you, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! :)

Tiffany blue confetti cupcakes

I had a sweet tooth last night and made some time to whip up some mini confetti cupcakes with a vanilla pudding filling and topped with a tiffany blue vanilla butter cream. A friend from out of town is here visiting and he thought they were delicious! Here is a picture of them already cooled with the vanilla pudding already piped in the center. Can you see the pudding?

I zoomed in a just a bit more so that you could see the confetti colored sprinkles and the pudding.

The next picture is of 2 of these lil cupcakes piped and ready to eat! Don't judge the piping I haven't started classes yet. I like to experiment alot.

And last but not least is the cupcake spilt in half so that you can see what it looks like when you take a bite!!

Double coconut cupcakes

So after posting pictures of my cupcakes on Twitter, I got asked by one of the Fiends Miss Summer to make her some cupcakes! She requested Coconut. I found this great recipe on the internet and gave them a test run last week and mmmm mmmm mmmm is all I have to say. Coconut filled cupcakes with a vanilla butter cream, topped with sweetened coconut!

I made another batch of the cupcakes last night and Summer came by to pick them up! She greeted me with a Fresh Fiends fanny pack! I hadn't gotten one yet so I was thankful she brought me one. After thanking eachother and after she left, a little bit later I was browsing through Twitter to find that she thanked me once again saying that the cupcakes were delicious!!! I was very pleased to hear that she thought they tasted great....

And this is them packaged up. 1 dozen regular sized cupcakes and 6 mini cupcakes.

Strawberry-Lemon cupcakes with extra whipped cream cheese frosting

These cupcakes turned out great tasting! You may not be able to see from the picture but yes there are strawberries in the cupcakes it's not just the strawberry filling. I thought the strawberries would cook too much or something of that nature, but they didn't! Here is what they looked like as I prepped them in the pan.

I made some regular size cupcakes too and this is what they looked like after they finished cooking.

I will be very honest with you my house never smelled so yummy as these were cooking. I guess you had to be there ;)

Here are the regular and mini cupcakes cooling on the rack.

This is what they looked like after I piped the frosting on them. When piping even the simplest design DO NOT USE extra or whipped store bought frosting. I bought the frosting to save some time WRONG idea! I will stick to making my own from now on. When I put the frosting into the piping bag it got softer and looked like glop when I put it on the cupcakes. :(

They shouldn't look like this you should be able to see each round right on top of the other. You see the one to the right pretty bad but that is when I ran out of frosting so I just smashed the little dome.

Here is a sneak peak on what I am working on next. The logo I made was too big for the cupcake so I have to make it smaller so that it will fit perfectly on the top of the cupcake!

Schnauzer Pup-cake!

In one of my earlier posts I promised Amy that I would try and duplicate the Schnauzer pup-cake. Time consuming but I believe I got it done! Since I didn't have jelly beans I used a tootsie roll for the nose, and since I didn't have any fruit roll-ups my brilliant daughters told me to use laffy taffy!

I took a couple of pictures from start to finish. Starting with the base and the ears which are made of marshmellow dipped in pink sugar crystal candies.....

Then I went on and added a bit more......

If you are wondering what is beneath the piping it is half of a marshmellow!

The piping took the longest to do!

Do you see his lil tongue sticking out!! ;p

Well I hope you like the pics of my Pup-Cake...More to come soon...Next project is a cupcake with the Monster drink logo for another person here at work! Then some coconut cupcakes with a Malibu meringue buttercream frosting on top....

Mom's B-day cake

My mom's birthday was last weekend but we had her party this past Saturday. She requested I make any kind of cake just as long as it had pudding between the layers. I am very pleased that it turned out the way it did being that I had none of the tools to make perfect cuts, nor did I have an air brush machine but mamaged to do my best! I ended up making a 2 layer chocolate satin cake with cheesecake pudding topped with fondant. Looks like a cake for a kids but my mom didn't mind and I am glad. I am happy that I will be taking classes soon though!I need to master putting fondant on a round cake it was hard! Oh yes and the dots all over the cake were so not on point. I wanted to get to sleep so it was done in a hurry!

Relay for Life

Super stoked!

I work in an executive suites building and a wife of one of the tenants came by. I showed her pics of my cupcakes. She saw them and went on to go and see her husband. When she came out she stopped and asked me to be a part of her annual Relay For Life Boutique. $25.00 for a spot and of course the proceeds go to the charity.She also holds this annual event to help women to promote their biz ventures! She said that it would be a great way to get my name/info out there! Rumor has it this lady knows plenty of people.So of course I agreed! She wants me to have an assortment of cupcakes so that I can sell and to also have mini plain cupcakes of different flavors so that people can sample. I can't wait.

Schnauzer cupcake...

So I showed some of my cupcakes to people here at work, and after lunch 1 of the girls came to my desk and brought me a cupcake book and a picture guide on how to make a Schnauzer cupcake. She has a cute lil doggie so I told her I would make it for her. This book has over 500 cupcakes in it. OMG!

Thanks Amy! I will hurry and make copies of the recipies and return your book :)

Triple Chocolate Fudge Spider & Baby

So here is the picture of the spider and her baby. They are made out of a triple chocolate fudge batter topped with dark chocolate frosting and black candy sprinkles. I used yellow vanilla candy melts for the eyes along with black chocolate frosting for the pupils! The only non edible part are the legs. I couldn't get the edible black spray to stick onto the pull and peel twizzlers, so I used black wire. I should have photographed these at home though! On the way to work today I had to come to a hault and they fell and got smashed!
Boo hoo......Wanted to share them with you anyways.

All of my ideas come from mutiple sites but the majority are from Flickr's website. So thank you to the many people that post all of their creations, and others creations. :)

Not only will I be posting baked goods on this blog but I will be posting invitations that I make, scrapbooking pages, birthday cards, and party favors. I love crafty things. Stuff to keep me busy...As if I have the time right? Well in order to keep sane I MAKE the time to get these things done. I am just now starting the whole baking/decorating and love it. I am starting off simple and cute but I WILL get to the point to where I can decorate things to where they look professional. So spread the word!!!

Butter Pecan Owl Cupcakes

So I got this great idea of making owl cupcakes courtesy of Ezra Pound CakeI couldn't resist so I had to try! I do not have the time to be making the cupcakes from scratch so I use store bought ready made mixes, however I do make my own butter cream!

Here is the recipe that I use:

1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine softened
4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar (approximately 1 lb.)

1 teaspoon of clear vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk
Makes: About 3 cups of icing.

You must first mix the vegetable shortening, and butter together. Once they are mixed add the vanilla extract. I mix on medium speed until well blended. I then mix in the sifted confectioners sugar 1 cup at a time. Once all of that is mixed in is when I add the milk and depending on the consistency you are trying to reach add more or less!

To make it into chocolate butter cream you add 3/4 cup of sifted cocoa powder and 1 teaspoon of milk.

Red Velvet Fondant Cake

Ok, so It's a little sloppy but I gave it a try. This is my first attempt at covering a cake in fondant. Not too bad considering I did this while my baby was napping! This is one of many to come. I will be starting cake decorating classes in mid October!
